Big Draw, Big Make

It has been eight years since I wrote and illustrated “A New house for Mouse”.

The book was rather important to me, because it was the first book in which I used pre-painted and pre-printed papers and collage.  I utterly enjoyed working on the illustrations  at the time.

Recently I was asked by my publisher, if I would consider doing another book with the same character.  The phone call about it came when I was on holiday. I was thrilled. I like thinking up new ideas when I’m somewhere nice. It didn’t take me long and I had a new book and what’s more, my publisher liked the idea.

At this moment I can’t write exactly what the book is going to be about, but I’m already looking forward to working on the pictures.

I suppose I can show some of the sketches. These are rather small notes from my sketch book .

In case you don’t know what is going on, here is Mouse, who just met the Rabbit and Mole.

A slightly better drawing of the same thing.

Mouse and banana.

Here is the Mouse, Rabbit and Mole together.

They are watching the stars.

So this is something I’ll be working on for the next few months.

I’m also getting ready for next weekend. I’ll be taking part in “The Big Draw”.  My event will take place at the  V&A on Sunday September 30th from 1pm to 3pm. I’m doing a workshop with children of different ages. We will draw animals in costumes. A kind of “Animal fancy dress party”. It’s a free event and all are welcome – please come if you’re able to be in London! The result should be a big picture which will end up in one of the children’s hospitals, just to make the place a nicer place to stay. I’m already looking forward to next weekend!
